Sligo Cllr defends Adoption Bill

A Sligo cllr is defending the Adoption Bill which is set to move to the committee stage in the Seanad today.

It would allow adoptees secure information about their adoption through Tusla.

There have been concerns about the privacy of natural or birth parents in cases where an adopted person is looking for information.

People Before Profit Cllr Gino O’ Boyle has in the past tired to trace the parents of his own father, the late Councillor Seamie O Boyle, who was placed in the Nazareth House as a baby.

Speaking to our reporter Therese Madden Cllr O’ Boyle says people have a right to know where they come from.
