Jim McGuinness sacked by Charlotte Independence in the US

Jim McGuinness has been sacked as head coach of US soccer club Charlotte Independence after just six months in the job.

The former Donegal All-Ireland winning manager was given his first head coach role in soccer last December when he signed a three year-contract with the North Carolina club, who play in the United Soccer League.

Results had not gone well for McGuinness with Charlotte winning just one out of 14 league games to date. They are currently second from bottom in the Eastern Conference.

Since leaving gaelic football management in 2014, McGuinness has spent time coaching underage sides at Celtic, and more recently had a spell working in China.
