Kilgannon calls for all bereaved students to be treated the same during exams

The Minister for Education, Joe McHugh, has been called on to reform the Junior Certificate examinations in a similar way to the changes that were introduced for the Leaving Cert this year.

Leaving Cert students who suffer a close family bereavement during the exams are allowed to sit alternative papers in those subjects in July.

Former lecturer at IT Sligo Seamus Kilgannon says the Leaving Cert re-form is a welcome development — and he has urged the minister to introduce similar changes for the Junior Cert.
