Leitrim battle their way to qualifier win over Wicklow

Leitrim gaelic footballers are into round two of the All-Ireland football qualifiers after Saturday’s 0-15 to 0-13 win against Wicklow in Carrick-on-Shannon.

It was a battling display by Terry Hyland’s side with their hunger and workrate telling in the end with Ryan O’Rourke producing a man-of-the-match display in the forward line. He scored seven points on the day.

The sides were level at 0-7 each at half-time and there was little between on the scoreboard in the second half, but Leitrim finished the stronger to book their place in the next round.

The draw for round two of the qualifiers will be made on Monday morning. Sligo and Mayo are among Leitrim potential round two opponents.

Leitrim: Cathal McCrann, Paddy Maguire (0-1), Micheal McWeeney, Aidan Flynn, Conor Reynolds, Mark Plunkett, Raymond Mulvey (0-1), Oisin McCaffrey, Shane Moran, Domhnaill Flynn (0-1), Sean McWeeney, Shane Quinn (0-1), Evan Sweeney, Pearce Dolan (0-3), Ryan O’Rourke (0-7, 4f).
