Ardara man is part of Emerald Warriors Union Cup bid



Ardara native David Watters will be part of the Emerald Warriors rugby squad which will be competiing in he 2019 Union Cup this weekend in Dublin.

The Union Cup is Europe’s biggest LGBT+ inclusive rugby tournament kicks off this Friday, June 7th in Dublin City University. 45 teams from 15 countries are participating.

David Watters will captain the Emerald Warriors third team when the tournament kicks off this weekend. He’s been telling Ocean FM Sport more about the Union Cup.

Dublin is also hosting a dedicated women’s tournament for the first time, alongside the men’s.

Irish team the Emerald Warriors, won the bid to host the tournament in 2017. It is  biennial LGBT+ inclusive rugby tournament where the aim is to make sporting accessible for LGBT individuals to promote health and wellbeing through physical activity.

Well known international rugby referee Nigel Owens will officiate the final on Sunday, June 9th.
