Local athletes shine at All-Ireland Schools track & field finals



There were some impressive performances from Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim athletes at the Irish Life Health All-Ireland Schools Track & Field Championships in Tullamore on Saturday.

The winners included Summerhill College student Michael Morgan, who again underlined his talent with another national gold medal in the intermediate boys 3000 metres.

Michael spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s PJ Leddy after his race win:

Ursuline College Sligo student Lauren Cadden won the Senior Girls 200m event in 24.10 secs. She also won silver in the 100 metres. The Ursuline senior girls team also won the national team championship on Saturday, while the Summerhill boys 4 x 400 metres relay quartet also won gold.

There were some impressive Donegal performances too with Niamh Moohan from Abbey Vocational School in Donegal town winning the Intermediate Girls 80m hurdles title.

Adrienne Gallen from St Columba’s Stranorlar, daughter of former high jumper Sharon Foley, won gold for the second year in a row in the junior girls hammer, setting a new Irish record in the process.
