Trustees confirm closure of St. Mary’s College in Ballisodare is deferred

The trustees of St Mary’s College in Ballisodare, Co Sligo, have deferred the proposed closure of the school.

In a message sent today to the school, the Catholic Education Irish Schools Trust said it has made the decision following the support of the Department of Education and Skills as it seeks to make provision for future projected enrolment in the greater Sligo Town area.

CEIST and the Department of Education and Skills has acknowledged what it described as the great support of the community to keeping the school open and their commitment to ensuring future growth in enrolment.

St Mary’s will now recommence taking enrolments for September 2019 and September 2020.

Cllr Marie Casserly, a teacher in the school says everyone is delighted.

Fine Gael Counillor Thomas Walsh also welcomes the decision.

He says the credit goes to the working groups effort.
