Sligo councillor says Sligo University Hospital emergency department no longer fit for purpose

A Sligo councillor says the emergency department at Sligo University Hospital is no longer fit for purpose.

Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says when it was originally built, it was to cater for 20,000 patients annually.

Now, with an annual increase of 1,000, it is catering for 40,000 patients every year.

He’s calling for funding to be provided for a new department as soon as possible.
