Fine Gael basking in Midlands/ North West Euro election success



Fine Gael is basking in its success in taking two of the four European Parliament seats in the Midlands North West Constituency.

Mairead McGuinness was the first to be elected, followed by former Rose of Tralee Maria Walsh.

Luke Ming Flanagan and Matt Carthy were also elected.

Senator Frank Feighan, Maria Walsh’s political director and director of elections, says the party is delighted.

As to speculation that she might run for the Dail, this was Maria Walsh’s response last night

Meanwhile, after his election, Luke Ming Flanagan said he would be fighting ‘like a dog’ for rural Ireland.
