Voter turnout reported as ‘good’ throughout the region



Voter turnout in the run-up to lunchtime throughout the region is being described as ‘good’, generally running at around 10%.

Voters have until 10pm tonight to cast their ballots in the local and European Parliament elections as well as the divorce referendum.

In some rural areas of Sligo turnout until about an hour ago was said to be about 10% and up to 13% before lunch in some rural polling stations such as Riverstown and Castlebaldwin.

In Ballisodare, turnout was 15% at all three booths there prior to lunch.

Meanwhile, there has also been a good turnout in areas of north Sligo, with people taking the opportunity to vote on their way to work this morning.

In North Leitrim, turnout is also good, with more than 16% in Rossinver in the last hour, 18% in Kiltyclogher at about noon, 11.5% in Killargue and 8% in Killennumery at 11am, and 10% and 8% in booths in Dromahair at about 11am.

At about 2pm, turnout in Kinlough was 18%

In South Donegal, one observer described voter turnout as ‘steady’ while another felt turnout was up about 5% on the last election.
