Donegal councillors again call for fire services in local communities

A Donegal councillor says the recent gorse wildfires in west Donegal highlighted the need to support the fire services in local communities.

Independent Councillor Seamus Maguire was speaking at this week’s meeting of councillors from the Donegal Municipal District.

During the meeting he proposed that plans and costings for the building of fire stations in Bundoran, Ballyshannon and Glencolmcille be brought before councillors as part of this year’s budget process.

He also called for a timeline for the building of the stations.

The arrangement of fire services in south Donegal has been a source on ongoing controversy but councillors have remained adamant that all three local areas should have their own fire stations.

Cllr Maguire said the recent gorse fires in west Donegal highlighted the need for emergency services in communities.
