Strong criticism of public toilet protest in Ballyshannon

There was strong criticism at a meeting of councillors from Donegal Municipal District yesterday of whoever placed a toilet bowl outside the closed public toilet building in Ballyshannon.

The toilet was placed there earlier this week apparently in protest over the continued closure of the public toilets because they are in need of major refurbishment.

Outgoing Fine Gael Councillor Barry O’ Neill described it as a ‘dirty trick’ to do something like this in one’s home town. with tourists seeing it, taking pictures and putting them up on social media.

Municipal District Chairman Fianna Fail Councillor Michael Naughton says placing the toilet bows outside the building is disrespectful to the hardworking people of Ballyshannon.

Cllr O Neill insisted councillors had been dealing with this issue and they did not need negative people and negative politics, but he said people had now turned up who think they can change the world.
