Concern over lack of home help hours raised in the Dail

Concerns over a lack of home help care for elderly people in Sligo has been raised in the Dail.

Fianna Fail Deputy Marc MacSharry asked the Taoiseach Leo Varadakar if he was aware of the crisis in the provision of homecare packages thoughout various community healthcare organisations throughout the region.

The three other TD’s from the Sligo Leitirm region – Fianna Fail Deputy Eamon Scanlon, Sinn Fein’s Martin Kenny and Fine Gael’s Tony McLoughlin also spoke on the issue.

Deputy MacSharry used an example of a 92-year-old man who had to wait 70 days for home help before being discharged from Sligo University Hospital.

Deputy MacSharry questioned the Taoiseach if additional resources or a supplementary budget could be provided to help alleviate the problem.

Leo Varadakar responded by stating additional funding was already provided for home help services this year.
