Warning: Gardai are seizing cars from unaccompanied learner drivers

Seven cars a day are being seized by Gardaí from unaccompanied learner drivers.

New laws came into effect in December, and the Clancy Amendment was introduced following a high profile campaign, after the tragic death of a mother and daughter in North Cork.

From December to the end of March, over 700 cars were seized, according to the Minister for Justice.

Local election candidate Padraig Fallon has raised the issue in the past at Leitrim County Council meetings. He say learner drivers who are living in rural areas are taking chances, and are driving without an accompanied driver in order to travel to and from work and college
