Sligo launches new disabilty and access strategy

Sligo County Council’s new disabilty and access strategy for the next three years has been described as one of the most important documents published by the local authority in its five-year term that is now coming to an end with the local elections.

Independent councillor and election candidate Declan Bree, who’s chairman of the council’s Disability Consultative Committee, says this is because more than 14% of Sligo’s population have a disability and face challenges because of that in their everyday lives.,

He says the challenge is to ensure those with disabilities have the same opportunities as others.

The new strategy document was launched yesterday afternoon.

Afterwards, Cllr Bree told Ocean FM News how it came about.
