Cllr concerned over future of Sligo Airport

Sligo councillors have voiced their concern about the future operation of Sligo Airport unless it receives government funding.

Although there are no longer regular scheduled passenger flights to or from Sligo Airport, it remains the base for the Coast Guard Rescue 118 helicopter.

The Coast Guard helicopter is also used regularly to take patients from Sligo to hospitals elsewhere.

At yesterday’s meeting of Sligo County Council , the last before the coming elections, Fianna Fail councillor and election candidate Tom MacSharry says €50,000 a year is needed to ensure the Rescue 118 service is maintained at the Strandhill facility.
