Beef Plan Movement plan protest at Ballinasloe summit

The Beef Plan Movement is organising a protest outside the Irish Farmers Journal’s Beef Summit next Thursday to highlight ‘unacceptable’ beef prices.

The summit will take place at the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe at 6.00pm.

Over 1,200 have registered to attend the summit.

Speakers will include the Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed; Secretary General at the Department of Agriculture, Brendan Gleeson; Bord Bia CEO, Tara McCarthy; Cormac Healy, Meat Industry Ireland; Gerry Boyle, Director Teagasc; Michael Wallace, Professor of Economics UCD; and Andrew Cromie, Technical Director, ICBF

The Beef Plan Movement is calling on factories and retailers to increase the prices the pay.

The Irish Farmers Journal says it is holding the summit because the future of the Irish suckler beef industry is at a critical juncture, with many farmers questioning the viability of suckler systems and some looking at alternative options of farming.

All farmers and people involved in the beef industry are welcome to attend the summit.

Attendance is free of charge, but anyone hoping to attend should register at www.farmersjournal.ie/beefsummit
