Call for traffic calming, footpaths, street-lighting in Coolaney

A South Sligo local election candidate is calling for work to be carried out to deal with the increased traffic that will be generated in Coolaney by the new National Mountain Bike Trail Centre.

Fianna Fail candidate Romuald Mullarkey says he is delighted the sod has been turned and work started on the €840,000 centre that’s expected to be a world-class attraction.

But while out canvassing in Coolaney, he says he saw the need for traffic calming as well as for the upgrading and extension of footpaths and street lighting from the village to the Centre entrance.

He says it’s vital that funding is ring-fenced to deal with the increase in vehicles and pedestrians in the area.
