Councillor calls for audit of water hydrants

A Donegal councillor is calling for an audit of all fire hydrants throughout the north west.

Independent Councillor and election candidate Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig is also urging that GPS technology be used to enable the fire services to easily locate fire hydrants.

The call comes in the aftermath of the gorse wildfires in Donegal during which firefighters were unable to access a fire hydrant at Beal Cruite National School because it had been tarred over.

He also says it must be made easy for any fire brigade unit to locate hydrants when they need them.
