Unknown film footage of WB Yeats reinterment available to the public

Unknown film footage of the reinterment of Nobel Prize winning poet William Butler Yeats at Drumcliffe in north Sligo in 1948 is now available for the public to see.

The colour piece of film shows the funeral and burial of Yeats, as well as the crowds of people who were present on the day more than 70 years ago.

The film was shot by a musician from Mayo named Jimmy Garvey.

It has now been donated to the Yeats Society in Sligo by Jimmy Garvey’s great nephew, Alan Aston.

Yeats Society Sligo Director Susan O Keeffe has been telling Ocean FM News about the extraordinary discovery.
