MEP Luke Flanagan to speak at Sligo 1916 commemoration

Independent Member of the European Parliament Luke Ming Flanagan will deliver the oration at this year’s annual 1916 commemoration ceremony at the Republican Plot in Sligo Cemetery this Easter Sunday at noon.

Local election candidate Corey Whyte will preside at the event, which is being held under the auspices of People First and Independents4Change.

Meanwhile, another commemoration at Sligo Cemetery under the auspices of Sinn Fein will take place later at 3pm, when those taking part will gather at the top of Cemetery Road, before going to the graves of the Noble Six, in the Republican Plot.

Flanagan, who is seeking reelection to the European Parliament, has been expressing growing concern over what he sees as the militarisation of the European Union.

He has been telling Ocean FM News what some of his main points will be when he speaks at the noon commemoration in Sligo.
