Leitrim councillor calls for Glyphostate to be banned



Leitrim County Council is to contact Health Minister Simon Harris and the Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to call for a ban on the use of Glyphostate or “Round Up” as a desiccant on the nations crops

 

The Council will make the representation following a motion which was tabled by Fianna Fáil Councillor, Justin Warnock at a recent meeting of the Manorhamilton Municipal District.

 

Speaking to the Ocean FM farm desk, Councillor Warnock claimed that “Round up” which is a weed killer was never meant to be used on crops such as oats, wheat or barley.

 

The local election candidate also claims that there is scientific evidence Glyphosate causes  various types of cancers and that traces of the product are also being found in drinking water.
