Mona McSharry to miss World Swimming Championships

Grange’s Mona McSharry will miss this summer’s World Swimming Championships in South Korea.

The Sligo teenager has recently recovered from glandular fever – and the medical advice is that she won’t be fully fit in time to make a concerted bid for honours at the 2019 FINA Worlds which will take place in Gwangiu, Korea, from July 12-28th.

Mona will, instead, concentrate on the short-course season towards the end of this year.

The Coláiste Cholmcille Ballyshannon student is also preparing for her Leaving Cert exams this June.

The Ireland team of 10 swimmers for the 2019 World Championships was announced on Tuesday.

It is: Curtis Coulter, Niamh Coyne, Conor Ferguson, Darragh Greene, Brendan Hyland, Jack Millen, Robert Powell, Jordan Sloan, Ellen Walshe and Shane Ryan.
