Donegal’s Ryan Griffin shoots round of the day at West of Ireland



18-year-old Ryan Griffin produced the round of the day on Friday at the Radisson Blu Sligo West of Ireland Open Championship at Rosses Point.

The Ballybofey man, playing in the West for the first time, carded a round of five-under-par 66, which was 14 shots better than his opening round of 80 on Thursday. His second round on Friday included two eagles and two birdies in his first five holes.

Griffin is at +5 for the championship and in good shape to make Saturday evening’s cut.

At the end of Friday’s play, the lead was held jointly by Dundalk’s Caolan Rafferty and Max Kennedy from Royal Dublin on -5. Listen to their post-round interviews here.

The cut for the 2019 West of Ireland will come on Saturday evening. The top 50 playesr and ties will qualify for Sunday’s final round.
