Purcell sets the pace at West of Ireland golf



Conor Purcell leads the 2019 Radisson Blu Sligo West of Ireland Amateur Championship after Thursday’s opening round.

The Portmarnock golfer leads on five-under-par after an opening round of 66.

He is pursued by Max Kennedy (Royal Dublin) by two strokes after a -4 (67).

A group of players are one stroke further back on -3 including defending Champion Robert Brazill (Naas) who closed with three consecutive birdies for a round of -3 (68).

The local challenge is led by 2016 North of Ireland champion Seán Flanagan who is -1 after an impressive 70. Gary McDermott (Carton House) and TJ Ford (Co Sligo) are both at level par.
