Calls for disabled public toilets in Sligo town

There is an urgent need for ‘proper’ disabled public toilets in Sligo town.

That’s according to Sinn Fein Cllr Thomas Healy who raised the issue at this week’s meeting of Sligo County Council.

In response to the motion Director of Services Tom Kilfeather said they had identified a number of possible locations for the facility however no site has been selected to date.

It’s understood the toilets would come at a considerable cost and planning permission would be required.

As a result Mr Kilfeather suggested the council may look at a model adopted by Donegal County Council in Ballybofey where businesses will be paid if they allow members of the public use their toilets.

Cllr Healy says action needs to be taken sooner rather later.
