The illegal importation of drugs is becoming a serious issue in the north west according to a Sligo/Leitirm Fine Gael TD.
The issue was raised at a recent meeting of the Joint Policing Committee in the Clarion Hotel in Sligo by Deputy Tony McLoughlin.
He has requested that Revenue officers should be invited to the next meeting of the committee to highlight the work being done to combat the problem.
Deputy Tony McLoughlin says he will be asking Revenue officers to give an update on plans for detection and interception of drugs being smuggled into the region.
