Finn Harps win EA Sports Cup tie after extra time



Finn Harps beat Sligo Rovers 2-1 after extra-time in Monday night’s EA Sports Cup second round tie at Finn Park in Ballybofey.

In front of a small crowd, the teams finished level at 1-1 after 90 minutes. Mark Coyle gave Harps the lead in the 86th minute but, from the restart, Dante Leverock equalised for Rovers.

In the first period of extra-time, Stephen Doherty, who was making his first-team debut, scored what proved to be the matchwinner for Harps.

In the night’s other ties, there were wins for Dundalk, Bohemians, Cork City and Waterford.

Bray Wanders beat Premier Division leaders Shamrock Rovers on penalties.
