Donegal election candidate seeking to combat emigration

A Donegal Independent local election candidate is calling for action to combat what he says the high level of youth emigration from the Ardara/Glenties area of the county.

Liam Whyte says a recent report by the Ardara/Glenties Primary Health Group has shown a 35% fall in the number of 20 to 24 year olds in the area between 2011 and 2016.

The report, he says, shows the decline of young people living in the area at almost twice the County Donegal average of 18% and more than four times the national average of 8%.

Liam Whyte says people are emigrating or migrating because of lack of opportunities.
