Donegal land CPO 33 years ago; family trying for over a decade to get it back

A meeting of councillors from Donegal Municipal District has heard how a family whose land was compulsorily acquired by the county council 33 years ago have been waiting more than a decade to get it back.

Twelve years ago, the council said it had no use for the land and the family has since been looking to get it returned under what’s known as a Section 183 process.

At the time the land, near Ballyshannon, was CPOd in 1986, it had planning permission for the building of a house.

Fine Gael Councillor Barry O Neill says he now wants to see the matter settled.
