Donegal councillor calls for nightclubs to review safety standards

A Donegal councillor wants nightclubs that hold teenage discos to review their safety procedures to ensure a tragedy like what happened in County Tyrone could not happen again elsewhere.

Cllr Gerry McMonagle, chairman of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee, says there are large numbers of young people who go to teenage discos.

But since the Tyrone tragedy, in which three teenagers died in a ‘crush,’ concerns have been raised about safety standards at venues where large crowds congregate.

Police investigating the deaths of three teenagers in Cookstown say there could have easily been more deaths.

Cllr McMonagle says that everything possible must be done to prevent a similar incident happening in Donegal or indeed any other area.
