Sligo Rovers & Finn Harps both suffer 3-0 defeats in Dublin

Sligo Rovers were outplayed by SSE Aitricity League Premier Division leaders Shamrock Rovers in a 3-0 defeat at Tallaght Stadium.

Liam Buckley’s side had no answer to the flair and attacking play of the ‘Dublin’ Rovers

Shamrock Rovers dominated the opening half but were unable to convert their possession into a goal.

That changed in the 39th minute when Dan Carr headed home Jack Byrne’s corner to give the home side the lead.

Ronan Finn made it 2-0 in the second-half – and it could have been worse for the visiting Rovers but for some wayward finishing by Aaron Greene.

And then man of the match Jack Byrne scored an excellent third for the Premier Division leaders eight minutes from the end, curling a deligthful shot past Rovers keeper Mitchell Beeney and into the top corner of the neat to seal a 3-0 win.

Elsewhere, there was disappointment for Ollie Horgan’s Finn Harps as they conceded three second-half goals against UCD  who move off the bottom of the table. Harps, who haven’t won at UCD Bowl for 15 years are bottom of the table tonight and still awaiting their first league win of the season.
