Mental health service – not fit for purpose

A Sligo TD says mental health services in the north west are not fit for purpose.

In total 9,938 staff were employed across mental health services in January this year – that’s an increase of 140 on the previous year.

In 2006, A Vision for Change document set out a new approach to mental health care in Ireland but now, 11 years on, staffing levels are falling below what was projected.

Deputy Marc MacSharry says the government needs to ‘up its game’ when it comes to recruitment of staff for mental health services.
