Donegal councillors pledge to tackle single use elections posters

South Donegal councillors have praised and agreed to a motion calling for a voluntary ban on using single-use plastic posters during the local election campaign .

But it seems some of them will continue to use the posters in their own campaigns.

The proposal for a voluntary ban was put forward by newly coopted Independent Councillor Seamus Maguire at yesterday meeting of councillors from Donegal Municipal District.

Fine Gael Councillor Barry O Neill, who is not seeking reelection, said there should be a ban on all single-use postering, not just election posters.

Cllr Maguire has pledged not to use single-use plastic posters in his campaign.

Afterwards, he gave his reaction to how other councillors dealt with his motion.
