Calls for government to clarify motoring rules ahead of Brexit

A Sligo TD is calling for the Minister for Transport to clarify the position for those with British driving licences who want to exchange them for Irish licences in advance of Brexit.

The Road Safety Authority has already advised British licence holders to apply now for an Irish licence in advance of the British exit from the European Union.

Meanwhile it’s been confirmed that a Green Card will be required to demonstrate to authorities in Northern Ireland and the UK that valid motor insurance is in place.

Fianna Fail Deputy Eamon Scanlon says the government must provide clarity on the insurance issue for those in the border region who cross into Northern Ireland on a daily basis.
