Seamus Rodgers running for Labour Party in Glenties

A veteran Donegal politician is aiming to make a comeback.

Seamus Rodgers has confirmed his intention to contest a seat for the Labour Party in the Glenties Municipal District in the 2019 Local elections.

He is serving on Donegal Joint Policing Committee and says the reason he is contesting his first election since 1999 is due to the fact that rural Ireland is struggling to maintain its existence.

Speaking earlier to Ocean FM News, Mr Rodgers outlined how his active involvement in various community and political has resulted in his still having a keen interest in all council matters.

The Labour Party candidate feels that there will be a significant number of floating voters in the Glenties Municipal District.

He also holds the firm conviction that successive governments have neglected rural Ireland and as a result rural towns and villages need major investments.

Labour suffered a disastrous back lash from the general in the last round of local and indeed general elections.
However according to Seamus Rodgers he is detecting a mood swing back towards the Party and he’s also confident that his background as a trade union will also stand to him when it comes to the local elections of 2019.
