People in south Sligo fear there will be a serious accident on the N17 national road that runs through their parish of Achonry/Mullinabreena.
That’s because of the many junctions where the N17 is joined by other roads.
Discussion about the realignment of the N17 between Collooney and Curry has been going on for more than 20 years.
However, Sligo County Council says of €200,000 has been approved this year to progress the planning and design of the realignment scheme.
Michael O’Dowd of the N17 Safety Sub committee says the situation is becoming more dangerous and there are often often problems in simply getting onto the N17 because of the volume and speed of traffic.
