With all the publicity, increased student interest in Ballisodare school

More parents have been indicating their interest in sending their children to St Mary’s College in Ballisodare, Co Sligo.

That’s since the news emerged last week that the school trustees, the Catholic Education Irish Schools Trust, (CEIST), announced they intended to close the school in about two years time.

Since then, there has been a major campaign to keep the school open, a key part of which is to attract more pupils.

Twelve new pupils were due to attend next September.

However, three more have enrolled since a public meeting last Tuesday night with four more indicating their interest through a school survey currently taking place.

Councillor Marie Casserly, a teacher in the school, is taking hope from the increased interest in the school.
