Leitrim IFA not happy with study to be undertaken on forestry in the county

The Chairman of the IFA in Leitrim has expressed his disappointment with the minister at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Andrew for falling to act on suggestions provided by the IFA in the county in relation to the terms of reference for a study on forestry.

James Gallagher says that the IFA in the county had lobbied for a long period of time for such a study to take place.

He says the Leitrim IFA also supplied the minister with recommendations for the study, which were not included when the terms were published earlier this year.

The North Leitrim-based farmer also claims that the terms of reference published by the Minister are too focused side of the industry and are not enough on the social and economic impacts of forestry.
