Lough Talt water supply: Campaign goes on for improvements and to raise awareness

A campaign group is continuing its efforts to get the water supply at Lough Talt up to the necessary health standards.

Cryptosporidium was discovered in the water supply affecting over 13,000 homes, resulting in a Boil Water Notice being reissued in January after it only having been lifted in October 2018.

Midlands North West Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy has called on the European Commission to examine what he says is an ‘ongoing failure.’

Kelly Cadman, from the Lough Talt Water Warriors, say the group is continuing to pass around petitions and put up posters to raise awareness about the problem.

She says cryptosporidium can only be destroyed using UV light and the next step is to lobby the Government to get a mobile unit installed at the current site.
