Funding for digital working hubs in four towns

The Western Development Commission is welcoming funding of €644,734 for what’s known as the Digiwest regional economic development project.

The money, from the Department of Community and Rural Development, is to develop digital working hubs in Tubbercurry, Co Sligo; Stranorlar, Co Donegal; Swinford, Co Mayo; and Tulsk, Co Roscommon.

Meanwhile, the Communications Minister says the time delay for a decision on the future of the National Broadband Plan is justified.

A decision on whether or not to award the contract to the sole remaining bidder has been due for a number of months.

The controversial plan has promised to deliver high speed broadband to over half a million premises.

Richard Bruton says they want the process to be thorough.
