Business as normal for haulers until end of 2019

Haulers along the border will now be able to carry out business as normal until the end of the year in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

New legislation passed by the European Parliament will permit road hauliers to operate in the UK and the EU as normal after March 29th.

The Irish road haulage sector employs around 47 thousand people and there had been fears that a no-deal Brexit would have had serious knock-on consequences for the passage of goods from north to south of the border.

MEP Matt Carthy MEP says the new rules will give some essential clarity to Irish road hauliers.
