Call for work at Ballymote Castle

A Sligo councillor says a tourist attraction in the south of the county is being promoted even though it is locked to the public.

It’s Ballymote Castle and, according to Fianna Fail Councillor Keith Henry, people wishing to gain entry to the castle ruins must write to the Office of Public Works seeking permission.

He says regular maintenance of the castle is not taking place and weeds are now growing on the historic site.

Cllr Henry says the castle could have huge potential for the town of Ballymote if used properly.
