Case of mumps confirmed at Sligo secondary school



A case of mumps has been confirmed at a secondary school in Sligo.

Parents of students at the Ursuline College in Sligo town were informed of a confirmed case of mumps this afternoon.

Mumps is a highly contagious viral infection that usually affects children.

Swelling of glands located on either side of the face, just below the ears are the most common symptom of mumps.

People are being advised to contact their GP if they suspect  they or their child might have the infection.
