Period of detention for two arrested in connection with murder extended



Detectives investigating the murder of a man from Sligo in Co Tyrone have extended the period of detention for two people arrested in connection with the investigation.

The PSNI is investigating after the body of 30-year-old Pat Ward was discovered in the McCrea Park area of Clogher on Saturday morning.

A 33-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of the murder of Pat Ward whose body was discovered at 8.15am on Saturday morning.

A court has now granted that the man and woman can now be questioned for additional 36 hours in connection with his murder.   This additional period of time started at 8pm yesterday evening.

A police forensic team carried out a detailed examination of the murder scene over the weekend.

The father of four had recently moved to the McCrea Park area.

His brother Tom Ward was murdered in Sligo in 2007.

MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone Michelle Gildernew says the brutal murder has left the community in shock.

The PSNI is now appealing to anyone who may have information or who was in the the McCrea Park area on Friday night or early Saturday morning to contact the police.
