Major drugs seizures by Sligo gardai over weekend

Sligo gardai have made a number of major drugs seizures, amounting to a total value of about €160,000, over the weekend.

Last night, members of Sligo Crime Unit and the Divisional Drugs Unit carried out a search in the Cranmore area of Sligo town.

About €80,000 worth of what is believed to be cannabis was seized.

A man in his 30s was arrested by gardai for the sale and supply of illegal drugs and is currently being detained at Ballymote Garda Station under the Drug Trafficking Act.

On Friday night, about €80,000 worth of drugs was also seized by gardai in Sligo.

It was after the Sligo Divisional Drugs Unit stopped a vehicle in the Ballytivnan area where they found about €20,000 worth of cannabis.

A man in his 20s was arrested and taken to Ballymote Garda Station.

A follow-up search at a premises discovered about €60,000 worth of cocaine and other illegal substances.

A man was charged and taken before a special sitting of Sligo District Court on Saturday evening, when he was remanded on bail.
