Half of people with COPD do not know they have it

Half of those living with the lung condition COPD in the north west region remain undiagnosed.

It’s estimated 28,000 in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease but 50 % of these people are unaware they have the condition.

Donegal has the highest number of people with the disease at 17,500.

Symptoms include shortness of breath, persistent coughing, and wheezing.

Health Promotion Officer with the Asthma Association of Ireland, Sam Irwin, is advising people to see their doctor if they have these symptoms.
