GPs from region to take part in Dail protest



General Practitioners from Sligo and Leitirim are to join a protest outside Dáil Éireann today.

This will mean some GP practices across the region maybe be closed to patients, or will have limited services available.

Over 500 GP’s are expected to take part in demonstration as they claim not enough new doctors are being appointed by the State to serve the public and many are having to retire early, due to burnout.

Chief Executive of the National Association of GP’s Chris Goody says the family doctor service in this country has completely collapsed:

The NAGP says there’s a recruitment crisis for doctors, with around half of all new GP graduates are leaving the country to work abroad.
