Woodlands Estate residents in Sligo still worry about flooding as they await works to begin

People in a Sligo housing estate continue to live in fear of their homes being flooded every time there’s heavy rain.

And although a quarter of a million euro has been approved to prevent the flooding recurring in the Woodlands Estate, it may be two years before work actually starts.

Council Director of Services Tom Kilfeather told a council meeting yesterday it was not simply a case of building a wall to prevent the flooding.

He said that specialist consultants had to design the project while the council itself was down five engineers despite now having to deliver major projects.

He added that the council ‘wanted to do it and do it right.’

Woodlands Estate Residents Association Chairman Michael Farrell says it’s vital there is no delay.
