North West household to face rubbish disposal inspections

Households who can’t demonstrate that they’re getting rid of their rubbish responsibly will soon face a fine.

Local Authorities are planning to roll out TV-licence style inspectors to homes that don’t use a registered waste company.

75 euro fines will be issued to people who can’t prove they’re using a recycling centre or sharing facilities with a neighbour.

Sinn Féin Leitrim Councillor Padraig Fallon says illegal dumping is a big rural issue, however he also feels that the funding used to set up such an inspection programme could be put to better use.
